The challenge

A major food manufacturer needed to build core EDI interfaces with their energy trading partner, enabling real-time digital exchange of Purchase Orders, PO Amendments, Advance Shipping Notifications and Invoices. These transactions are central to the commercial relationship between the two organisations, so reliability, auditability and supportability were essential.

The project also carried strategic significance: it was their first integration delivered on SAP BTP Integration Suite. That meant the work would set patterns for platform configuration, connectivity, iFlow design, monitoring, error handling and future integration delivery. The challenge was to deliver the immediate EDI outcome while laying foundations the broader integration programme could trust.

What we did

Beta Digital provided full-lifecycle delivery across platform setup, architecture, design, development, testing and go-live support. We provisioned and configured SAP BTP Integration Suite, established connectivity to SAP ECC, and validated AS2 message exchange with the partner through a proof of concept before proceeding to full implementation.

Each EDI message type was implemented as a dedicated integration flow, giving them clear separation of concerns and independent handling for each transaction. The flows handled IDocs, transformation to the required EDI formats, AS2 transmission, inbound receipt, reverse transformation and posting back into their ERP.

We also helped resolve technical, security and connectivity issues across the end-to-end stack, working with their IT team, network stakeholders and third party technical contacts. Documentation and knowledge transfer were included so the support team could operate and extend the platform confidently.

What it delivered

The project successfully enabled real-time EDI transactions with their trading partner and completed the go-live with minimal disruption. The project replaced manual and semi-automated exchange points with a reliable, auditable integration channel.

Just as importantly, the engagement established a proven BTP Integration Suite delivery pattern. The platform foundations, design practices and operational approach from this project became a benchmark for future SAP BTP integrations across the organisation.
